Payroll Assistant - Truro - £competitive
Our client requires a Payroll Assistant to join their team.
As the Payroll Assistant you will be assisting the operation of a busy and client focussed payroll bureau, providing a weekly, monthly and quarterly payroll service for a wide-range of clients.
Reporting to the Manager, your role will be as follows:
- Processing weekly, monthly and quarterly payroll runs, for clients with anything up to 100+ employees
- Administering Statutory Sick Pay (SSP), Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) and Statutory Paternity Pay (SPP) schemes and maintaining all required data
- Processing starters and leavers under RTI regulations
- Completing various forms required by HMRC
- Processing year end procedures following RTI regulations and producing P60s for employees
- Administering Auto Enrolment procedures
- Administering attachment of earnings orders and advising clients of the payments due to the relevant authority
- Providing advice to clients in relation to pay, taxation and National Insurance issues
- Resolving queries and keeping the Payroll Manager briefed on any significant client issues or unresolved matters
To be considered for this Payroll Assistant position, all applicants should have the following skills and experiences:
- Recent experience in operating a payroll, including technical aspects of SSP; SMP; P45 and other statutory entitlements and year end procedures is essential
- Experience of using computerised payroll packages (eg, Sage)
- Working knowledge of RTI administration is essential
- 5 GCSEs (A-C) or equivalent including Maths and English
- Experience in administering Auto Enrolment procedures is highly desirable
- Able to deal with a wide range of clients in a polite and professional manner, predominantly by phone and e-mail
- Able to work independently and as part of a team, assisting and supporting others in a proactive manner
- Accurate, numerate, with a methodical and organised approach to work
- Comfortable working to continuously strict deadlines
- IT literate and able to use Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
- Investigative and problem-solving nature
- A payroll qualification
Knowledge of the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) and experience in the payment of sub-contractors is desirable
