- IT Systems Technician (Server Data Centre) – Shrewsbury - £22k - £26k + overtime + benefits
Our client requires a Systems IT Technician to join their existing IT Operations team which has responsibility for both internal and web hosted IT systems environments and associated data.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow documented change / maintenance / security processes
- Ensuring optimal application performance and uptime in accordance with business and customer expectations, record scheduled vs unscheduled services outages and push our Continuous Improvement Program CIP forward
- Work to ensure adoption of best security and process practices, auditing and compliance (including PCI-DSS, ITIL, ISO)
- Daily management of hosted compute, storage and backup services
- Regular status and measurement reporting to the management, customer support teams and software developers
- Regular diagnostics across systems, including locating and highlighting performance issues
- Take ownership and resolve service affecting incidents by utilising available skills and resources
- Hardware maintenance
- Lease with hardware vendors such as DELL on warranties, replacements and general support
- Source and manage installation of replacement hardware where necessary
- Help drive a roadmap/strategy for future hosted systems growth
Technical requirements:
Technical expertise in one or more of the following; web hosting, storage, tools, data protection and networking
- Windows Server
- Webfarms (Clustering/NLB)
- SSL certificate management and Secure web server publishing
- Internet Information Systems (IIS)
- MS SQL Server (High availability/Clustering)
- SAN/NAS connectivity
- Critical updates/service packs/patch management
- A rounded knowledge of firewalls and layer2/layer3 networking
Beneficial skills :
- DEVOPS skills, custom ISV SaaS application deployment and software lifecycle
- SQL Scripting, SQL Performance Reporting/Tweaking, Powershell/C# Scripting
- Relevant MCSE certification
- Knowledge of hosted web application environments (Java/PHP/.NET)
- ITIL / MOF training or certification
