- Purchase Ledger Assistants - £16k - £18k per annum – South Shields
The successful candidate will be reporting to the Operations Director; all roles centre on procurement and supply chain management.
Roles will primarily be to track the progress of orders, working with suppliers, agents and colleagues to make sure the products arrive on schedule. You will be responsible for the raising of purchase orders and maintaining all related spreadsheets, tracking progress from forecast to the final point of delivery.
A key part of your role is to liaise with other departments to ensure stakeholders are informed of specification changes. This includes organising the timely authorisations of payments to suppliers, ensuring that the goods are made to internal timetables.
DUTIES:
- Using Sage for entering orders and deliveries.
- Raising orders for the company and clients
- Tracking the progress of the orders and working with suppliers, agents and colleagues to make sure the products arrive on schedule.
- Keeping management informed in each territory as to the progress of their order
- Using Excel to update information.
- Checking pro-forma invoices and copying documents.
- Preparation of payment requests for authorisation.
- Writing emails to suppliers in a clear and concise manner.

To do this job well, you will need an eye for detail and you must be able to demonstrate that you can record data accurately. You must be proficient at excel to an intermediate level as you will be using excel spreadsheets to track shipments and monitor delivery times.
These roles would suit Graduates who have studied business studies, purchasing & logistics, purchasing and supply, operations and retail management
For Graduates with previous experience as well as being qualified in purchasing/ logistics or working towards corporate membership of CIPS can expect a higher salary particularly those individuals with managerial experience
Generally candidates should possess the following skills and competences.
- Analytical skill – you must be able to demonstrate a level of proficiency in Excel.
- GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English.
- A team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Good communications both orally and written.
- Have confidence to prioritise own workload without constant supervision.
- Language skills are an advantage, but not essential.
